Synesthesia Self-Assessment

Explore whether you may experience synesthesia — and which type(s) resonate with your experience.

This is an exploratory self-assessment, not a clinical diagnosis. Synesthesia is a neurological variation, not a disorder. Results are for personal reflection only. If you have questions about your neurology, a qualified clinician can help.

What is synesthesia?

Synesthesia is a neurological phenomenon in which stimulation of one sense automatically triggers an experience in another. It is involuntary, consistent, and usually present from childhood. It is not a disorder — it is a variation in how the brain processes information.

Synesthesia is significantly more common among neurodivergent individuals — particularly autistic people, those with ADHD, and those with dyslexia. Research suggests synesthesia may occur in up to 20% of autistic individuals, compared to roughly 4% of the general population.

This quiz covers 8 types of synesthesia across 15 questions. Answer honestly based on your actual experience — not what you think synesthesia should feel like.
