Neurodivergent Therapist in Honolulu
Honolulu's neurodivergent community navigates a unique set of pressures: island isolation, high cost of living, and a cultural context where mental health stigma runs deep in many communities. Telehealth therapy that crosses the Pacific — affirming, identity-centered, and actually neurodivergent-informed.
Neurodivergent-Led Therapy for Honolulu Clients
Love Psychotherapy is a neurodivergent-owned, queer-owned telehealth practice. Mx. Love C. Dialogos (They/Them) is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Buddhist chaplain, and AAMFT-Approved Supervisor offering strengths-based, identity-affirming care to neurodivergent clients in Honolulu and across Hawaii.
Honolulu clients often present with late diagnoses that were missed due to cultural factors — collectivist family systems where individual difference is minimized, limited access to evaluators familiar with non-Western presentations of autism and ADHD. Many are navigating neurodivergence in a cultural context that has no framework for it.
Autism — Identity-Affirming
Autism therapy grounded in the neurodiversity paradigm. No ABA, no compliance training, no "fixing." We work with your actual experience — sensory, social, executive, and emotional.
ADHD — Emotional Dysregulation & RSD
ADHD therapy that goes beyond productivity tips. We work with emotional dysregulation, rejection sensitive dysphoria (RSD), shame, and the identity wounds that accumulate before diagnosis.
AuDHD — The Intersection
The co-occurrence of autism and ADHD creates a specific experience that neither framework alone captures. AuDHD therapy holds both simultaneously — the rigidity and the impulsivity, the hyperfocus and the shutdown.
Late Diagnosis — Grief & Relief
Late diagnosis brings a complicated mix: relief at finally having language for your experience, and grief for the years you struggled without support. We work with both.
Autistic Burnout
Autistic burnout is a prolonged state of exhaustion and reduced functioning caused by chronic masking and overextension. Recovery is possible — but it requires a different kind of support than regular burnout.
Demand Avoidance / PDA Profile
The Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profile is significantly underrecognized. Therapy uses autonomy-supportive, low-demand approaches that actually work for PDA-profile autistic adults.
Neurodivergent Community in Honolulu
Hawaii has a significant neurodivergent adult population with very limited access to affirming providers. The University of Hawaii has neurodiversity research programs. The state's geographic isolation means telehealth is often the only realistic option for specialized care. Many clients are navigating late diagnosis alongside Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, or Asian cultural contexts where neurodivergence is rarely named.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does telehealth work across the time zone difference between Hawaii and the mainland?
Yes — I offer sessions that accommodate Hawaii Standard Time (HST), which is 5–6 hours behind Central time. We'll find a session time that works for your schedule. Many Hawaii clients appreciate the flexibility of telehealth precisely because it opens up access to providers who aren't available locally.
Do you work with Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander clients navigating late diagnosis?
Yes. Late diagnosis in Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities is often missed because Western diagnostic frameworks don't account for how autism and ADHD present in collectivist cultural contexts — where individual difference is minimized and community harmony is prioritized. I approach this work with cultural humility and a genuine interest in your specific experience.
Hawaii's cost of living is extremely high. How do you make therapy accessible?
I offer a sliding scale for clients who need it. Hawaii's cost of living is genuinely prohibitive, and I don't want that to be a barrier to care. Reach out and we can discuss what's workable. I also accept several insurance plans — check the insurance section for current carriers.
I grew up in a family where mental health was never discussed. How do I even start?
Starting is the hardest part, and it's okay to not know exactly what you need. Many Honolulu clients come in having never talked to anyone about their neurodivergence — not because they didn't need to, but because the cultural context made it feel impossible. The first session is just a conversation. There's no pressure to have it figured out.
