Neurodivergent Therapist in Houston

Houston's neurodivergent community is growing fast — and the city's sprawl means telehealth isn't just convenient, it's often the only realistic option. Affirming therapy for autistic adults, late-diagnosed ADHD, and AuDHD folx across the Bayou City.

Neurodivergent-Led Therapy for Houston Clients

Love Psychotherapy is a neurodivergent-owned, queer-owned telehealth practice. Mx. Love C. Dialogos (They/Them) is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Buddhist chaplain, and AAMFT-Approved Supervisor offering strengths-based, identity-affirming care to neurodivergent clients in Houston and across Texas.

Houston's geographic sprawl makes in-person therapy genuinely difficult — telehealth removes a major access barrier. Many clients are late-diagnosed adults who masked successfully in Houston's high-achievement professional culture.

Autism — Identity-Affirming

Autism therapy grounded in the neurodiversity paradigm. No ABA, no compliance training, no "fixing." We work with your actual experience — sensory, social, executive, and emotional.

ADHD — Emotional Dysregulation & RSD

ADHD therapy that goes beyond productivity tips. We work with emotional dysregulation, rejection sensitive dysphoria (RSD), shame, and the identity wounds that accumulate before diagnosis.

AuDHD — The Intersection

The co-occurrence of autism and ADHD creates a specific experience that neither framework alone captures. AuDHD therapy holds both simultaneously — the rigidity and the impulsivity, the hyperfocus and the shutdown.

Late Diagnosis — Grief & Relief

Late diagnosis brings a complicated mix: relief at finally having language for your experience, and grief for the years you struggled without support. We work with both.

Autistic Burnout

Autistic burnout is a prolonged state of exhaustion and reduced functioning caused by chronic masking and overextension. Recovery is possible — but it requires a different kind of support than regular burnout.

Demand Avoidance / PDA Profile

The Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profile is significantly underrecognized. Therapy uses autonomy-supportive, low-demand approaches that actually work for PDA-profile autistic adults.

Neurodivergent Community in Houston

Houston has a significant neurodivergent adult community, particularly in the Montrose and Midtown areas. The Autism Society of Greater Houston and CHADD Houston chapter are active. Rice University and UT Health Houston have neurodiversity research programs. Houston's large immigrant and BIPOC communities mean many clients are navigating late diagnosis alongside cultural stigma.

Frequently Asked Questions

Houston is huge. Does telehealth actually work for therapy?

Telehealth is often better than in-person for Houston clients — the city's sprawl means a 45-minute commute each way is a real barrier to consistent care. Secure video sessions from your home or office remove that barrier entirely, and research consistently shows telehealth therapy is as effective as in-person for most presentations.

Do you work with Houston clients who are navigating late diagnosis alongside cultural or family stigma?

Yes. Houston's diverse communities — Latinx, South Asian, East Asian, West African, and others — often carry significant cultural stigma around mental health and neurodivergence. Many clients are the first in their family to seek therapy, and we work with both the late-diagnosis process and the cultural context it's happening in.

I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. Is that different from childhood ADHD?

The neurology is the same, but the experience is often very different. Adults diagnosed late have usually developed extensive masking and compensatory strategies — which is why they weren't identified earlier. Therapy for late-diagnosed ADHD adults often involves grief (for the years of struggling without support), identity work, and unlearning the shame that accumulated before the diagnosis.

Do you work with autistic adults in the Houston area who are also queer or trans?

Yes — this is a core part of my practice. Autistic and ADHD adults who are also queer or trans often face compounded barriers: providers who understand neurodivergence but not queerness, or vice versa. I hold both simultaneously, without requiring you to educate me on either.
