Madison has an active LGBTQ+ community, served by the OutReach LGBTQ+ Community Center, and many queer and trans clients here are also autistic or ADHD. Many arrive having already done a lot of reading and self-advocacy.

Autism: Identity-Affirming

Autism therapy grounded in the neurodiversity paradigm. This work does not use ABA, compliance training, or "fixing." We work with your actual experience: sensory, social, executive, and emotional.

ADHD: Emotional Dysregulation & RSD

ADHD therapy that goes beyond productivity tips. We work with emotional dysregulation, rejection sensitive dysphoria (RSD), shame, and the identity wounds that accumulate before diagnosis.

AuDHD: The Intersection

The co-occurrence of autism and ADHD creates a specific experience that neither framework alone captures. AuDHD therapy holds both simultaneously: the rigidity and the impulsivity, the hyperfocus and the shutdown.

Late Diagnosis: Grief & Relief

Late diagnosis brings a complicated mix: relief at finally having language for your experience, and grief for the years you struggled without support. We work with both.

Autistic Burnout

Autistic burnout is a prolonged state of exhaustion and reduced functioning caused by chronic masking and overextension. Recovery is possible: but it requires a different kind of support than regular burnout.

Demand Avoidance / PDA Profile

The Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profile is significantly underrecognized. Therapy uses autonomy-supportive, low-demand approaches that actually work for PDA-profile autistic adults.

Neurodivergent Community in Madison

Madison adults have the Autism Society of South Central Wisconsin and the research of the UW–Madison Waisman Center nearby, but therapy built for late-identified autistic and ADHD adults can still be hard to find. Many Madison clients were identified late, often in graduate school or at work, after years of being treated for anxiety or depression alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Love Psychotherapy located in Madison?

Love Psychotherapy's Wisconsin address is 811 East Washington Avenue in Madison. All sessions are held by secure telehealth video, so you can attend from home or anywhere in Wisconsin where you have privacy.

Do you take insurance in Madison?

Yes. Love Psychotherapy is in network with UnitedHealthcare/Optum and commercial Blue Cross Blue Shield in Wisconsin, and accepts Wisconsin Medicaid. Self-pay rates are $325 for the intake session and $275 for follow-up sessions.

I was diagnosed with anxiety or depression years ago. Could it have been autism or ADHD?

It is common. Most of the people I work with were misdiagnosed for years before someone recognized autism, ADHD, or both. Therapy here focuses on skill development and on understanding how your own wiring works. I can also write letters of support toward a formal diagnostic evaluation.

Can I see you if I already have a therapist?

Insurance covers one individual therapist at a time, so I don't see clients who are in individual therapy elsewhere. Before intake, I ask new clients to sign releases so I can get records from current providers.
